Everyday Korean chat words can help you recognise a laugh, a thank-you or encouragement; keep polite endings when writing to someone new.

Korean words for a friendly chat

| Term | Reading | Meaning and use |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 친구 | chingu | Friend; in some contexts, someone of the same age. |
| ㅋㅋ | keukeu | A written laugh in casual chat, roughly “haha”. |
| 대박 | daebak | A big success, or an informal “wow”. |
| 진짜 | jinjja | “Really” or “real”, depending on the sentence. |
| 화이팅 | hwaiting | “You can do it”: a friendly word of encouragement. |
| 고마워요 | gomawoyo | Thank you, in a friendly polite form. |

- Someone new never sees your birthday, exact location or username.

- Social handles and links can’t go in letters.

- Teens 13–17 only meet other teens. Country minimum ages apply.
