# Learn Korean with pen pal friends

## Write a little, whenever you like

Start with a polite greeting and one short Korean sentence. Add a language you both understand if you need more room to tell your story.

## Translate when you’re stuck

Compare a translation with the original to notice a new expression. Tell your friend what you tried writing and ask whether they would like to help with corrections.

## What to write about

Try a polite Korean greeting, then share something you did today and ask about your friend’s day.

- Say what you enjoy doing, using a Korean word you already know.
- Explain why you started learning Korean.
- Describe a small thing you did today in a short sentence.
- Ask about a word you saw and share what you think it means.
- Ask whether your friend is comfortable helping with an occasional phrase.

## Words you’ll see

Polite Korean greetings and hobby words are enough to start a first letter; romanisation is a reading aid, while Hangul shows the original spelling.

Korean for a first letter

| --- | --- | --- |
| 안녕하세요 | annyeonghaseyo | Hello, in a polite form suited to a first letter. |
| 반가워요 | bangawoyo | Nice to meet you; a friendly polite greeting. |
| 좋아해요 | joahaeyo | I like it; add what you like before this phrase. |
| 오늘 | oneul | Today: a starting point for a small daily story. |
| 취미 | chwimi | Hobby: something you enjoy in your free time. |
| 감사합니다 | gamsahamnida | Thank you, in a formal polite form. |

- Someone new never sees your birthday, exact location or username.

- Social handles and links can’t go in letters.

- Teens 13–17 only meet other teens. Country minimum ages apply.

### Do I need to speak Korean already?

You can start in English or another shared language and try a line in Korean when you feel ready. Your pen pal decides whether to help with language questions; Sea Pals does not provide lessons.

### Will my letter go to Korea?

Shared interests and languages can help you meet Korean pen pals, but you cannot choose a country or a particular person.

### Is translation free?

Yes. The app’s translation feature is free.

### Is it safe for teens?
