Questions

How it works, in one sentence

Write a letter and Mochi the otter takes it to a few people around the world. If someone accepts it, you can chat as pen pals.

Who can use Sea Pals?

People aged 13 and over (16 in Australia, 14 in South Korea). Teens meet only teen strangers, and adults meet only adult strangers. The birthday you enter decides who you can meet; other people see your age, never your birth date.

Do I have to come back every day?

No. There are no streaks, and nothing on your island is lost if you’re away. Unused bottles collect on your beach up to its limit; incoming letters have a reply window.

Why can’t I put a link or a username in a letter?

Letters can’t include links, usernames or phone numbers. In a chat with someone met by letter, contact details can travel once you have each sent 5 text messages of at least 2 characters.

Can strangers see my photo?

Friends can see your profile picture. New people can see it while a letter between you is open, unless they’ve turned pictures from new people off. Chat photos between people met by letter need 5 text messages of at least 2 characters each and the receiver’s permission for that person.

How do group chats work?

A group chat holds up to 6 friends, from anywhere. A friend invites you and you must accept; people who aren’t already friends must fit each other’s age and meeting choices. You can leave quietly any time.

How do friends fill in a page in my book?

Send them your book link from the app. They fill in a page on the web, and you approve it before it’s added.

How do I block or report someone?

Open their card or the chat, then choose Block or Report. A person reads every report.

I can’t sign in

Try the way you signed up (Apple, Google or email). If that doesn’t help, write to us from the address on your account.

Is there an Android app?

Yes. You can use Sea Pals on iPhone, Android and the web.
